The Derek Jeter/St. Peter Claver Catholic School Scholarships

St. Peter Claver Catholic School offers an educational program that is open to all students regardless of race, nationality, or religious belief. It is our purpose to foster service to others, to be committed to the dignity of all people and provide Christian education to African American youth of the community.

Convinced of the dignity of each individual, St. Peter Claver Catholic School tries to develop each child according to his or her ability. The total school program provides for the spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, and social growth of each student. Today, over 110 years since the school opened, the school accommodates students in the Early Childhood Program through grade eight. It is the oldest African American School in the Diocese of St. Petersburg, and the oldest African American school still functioning not only in Hillsborough County, but also in the State of Florida.

St. Peter Claver Catholic School has a rich heritage and is recognized by the community for its positive discipline, moral values and strong curriculum. The lives of many citizens have changed dramatically by the academic and spiritual guidance provided by the school. Over the years, former students have greatly enriched not only the Tampa community, but also the nation. The Turn 2 Foundation currently provides financial assistance for 15 students to attend St. Peter Claver Catholic School on a yearly basis.

The Derek Jeter/Hillsborough Education Foundation Scholarship is administered by the Hillsborough Education Foundation. It is awarded to one male and one female recipient who exhibits excellence in academics, participates in extra-curricular activities and is active in community service. The scholarship is renewable every four years.
