Turn 2 Foundation Camp Program

The Turn 2 Foundation Camp Program is a partnership between S.C.O.P.E. (Summer Camp Opportunities Promote Education) and the Turn 2 Foundation. Each year, Turn 2 provides "camperships" to children in Turn 2's Signature After-School Programs. This past summer the partnership provided unforgettable camp experiences to more than 80 children for one, two and three weeks. This year marked the first year Turn 2 was able to provide these scholarships to children from Turn 2's West Michigan programs through S.C.O.P.E. Midwest.

In 2012, campers attended one of the four participating sleepaway camps: Camp Fiver in Poolville, N.Y.; McGaw YMCA Camp Echo in Fremont, Mich.; New York YMCA Camp in Huguenot, N.Y.; and Camp Vacamas in West Milford, N.J. Children displaying good behavior, good academic standing and high attendance and participation in their after-school sites are nominated to stay at camp for one, two or three weeks. Each camp offers numerous activities including swimming lessons, arts and crafts, horseback riding, computer literacy, hiking and a variety of sports. Many Turn 2 parents and campers commented on their experiences with camp and their hope to be involved in the future.

"Camp is a wonderful opportunity for my children and my family. My son and daughter always look forward the camp experience every year. It shows how camp is a good experience in their lives. The children learn to tolerate other people that are different from them in ethnicity and age, and learn to live happily with others. The camp encourages my children to be physically and mentally strong and helps them balance their emotions as they grow. My children always have new things to look forward to in camp and learn new things. I love this camp experience for my family!"

"My stay at the YMCA sleepaway camp was very good because it was my first time. My favorite activity was arts and crafts and fun and games. I like arts and crafts because we made friendship bracelets. I want to thank everyone for inviting me to the YMCA sleepaway camp!"

"My daughter's sleepaway summer camp experience was an awesome opportunity for her. Thank you!"
