The Turn 2 Foundation gave a “Red Carpet” welcome to 500 guests on June 7, 2004 at our 8th Annual Dinner. Once again, Derek and the Foundation combined forces with NBC broadcaster Bob Costas serving as emcee with entertainment provided by Grammy award winner Roberta Flack. Our special guest was Joe Torre.

Adele Smithers-Fornaci of the Christopher D. Smithers Foundation was the recipient of Turn 2’s First MVP Award. Her guidance in Turn 2’s early development is still paramount to this day in our Signature Programs. The Smithers Foundation deals in the education and prevention of alcoholism in all ages. The second half of the program was highlighted by a Q & A conducted by Costas with Derek and special guest, Yankees’ manager Joe Torre.

The soft and upbeat sound of recording artist Roberta Flack brought the evening full circle in our entertainment doubleheader.

The event concluded with the Live Auction and Derek’s Yankee Game Day Package bringing in an astounding $40,000 - thanks to back-and-forth bidding spurred on by Jay-Z! Guests of the winners, our Triple Crown sponsor, Ernst & Young, will dine at the Stadium Club, meet Derek and be “front and center” in the Legends Box to watch the Yankees take on the Red Sox.

Each year we challenge ourselves to make our dinner event bigger and better. This year’s stage boasted a video wall while oversize screens and 10 plasma monitors kept the program up close and personal for all throughout the venue.

Turn 2 fosters its mission through team spirit which culminates with our dinner each June. If you would like to join in the fun to benefit our kids as well as be a part of our annual event, please contact the Foundation for further information. Our VIP Red Carpet is waiting for you!
