Jeter's Leaders member since 2007

In a word or phrase, what does leadership mean to you? Capacity.

Why did you join the program? I joined the Jeter's Leaders program for a chance to open doors for myself and make an impact on my family and my community. Simply, because there are a large number of Hispanic males who take the time to attend programs and be consistent with them. I wanted to break that chain in my family and join a program that would lead me to the right path and enable me to be successful. I wanted to keep myself far away from the streets and be in an environment where I feel comfortable, and the Jeter's Leaders is that program.

What have you gained from the program? I have gained confidence from the Jeter's Leaders program. I feel as though I'm stepping out of my box every time I make a presentation at one of our meeting or when I am at a school. I am not afraid to meet new people and collaborate with them. I have also learned that having confidence enables you to become a leader, and when people see that confidence in you they admire and follow you.

What is your favorite part of the program? My favorite part of the program so far would have to be the holiday express event. This event is my favorite part of the program because all the Leaders and staff worked together for a good cause. We all worked very hard and I was glad to see those kids smiling when they received their gift bags. I think this event really proved to me what the program is all about and it also allowed me to get along with my peers a bit more.
